How to master the “deceptive sweep” pass in hockey

On this video by LeapHockey we can learn how to do the “deceptive sweep” skill, which can quickly eliminate defenders and create scoring opportunities. The skill involves using deception with eyes and body movements to open space and thread the ball through multiple lines of defense. TEST

The deceptive sweep can be broken down into several elements: eyes, grip, ball position, body position/rotation, and slide off the stick. The eyes should be used to shift defenders and create a channel for the pass. The grip should be at the top of the stick, with both hands facing down and the blade facing away from the player.

The ball position should be between the feet and close to the player when in a lunge position. allowing the body rotation and the slide off the stick. This movement should be coordinated to generate power for the pass.

The ball should start below the grip and roll down the stick during the pass. Proper execution of the deceptive sweep can provide a significant advantage in hockey games, especially when breaking through defensive lines and creating scoring chances.
