George Pinner’s goalkeeping technique

George Pinner is the goalkeeper of the the Great Britain and English teams. He is one of the most technically defined keepers in the world and, these are some of the tips that can make you in a great goalkeeper (source: England Hockey)

1. Keep the weight of your body balanced in the right position.
2. Use short, fast and small steps rather than big ones.
3. Lead your body movements with your head and stay in line with the ball.
4. Use your hips rotation to impact the ball with maximum strength when clearing.

5. Keep your body in a balanced position moving your hands and head towards the ball.
6. Don’t bring your back knee when you make contact with the ball, the “empty” leg needs to be ready to reset your position in the case that the clearing of the ball was not good.
7. Clear the ball to the space, to the sidelines, not to where the ball came from.
8. Film yourself, specially your kicking so you know how well are you kicking the ball.
