Trapping Penalty Corners: Eddie Ockenden’s Technique

Eddie Ockenden is one of the key pieces in the deadly Australian penalty corners. In this video, produced by Sports Media Group, he explains his technique for stopping the penalty corner insertion, these are the main points:

1. The player should assume a body position that he or she is personally comfortable with.
2. Watch the ball really closely and have a direct line with the pusher.
3. Use soft hands.
4. The stick should be place at an approximate 45° angle with the top of the circle.
5. Try to stop the ball with the curve (head) of the stick.
6. If the ball is badly pushed-in, you need to balance your body to be able to move left or right in order to stop the ball.
