Learn how to reverse stick hit a ball with Scottish International hockey player Kerry-Anne Hastings

Scottish International hockey player Kerry-Anne Hastings, shared a very interesting video in order to learn the reverse hockey hit. This video was shared by ONE Sports Warehouse.

The most important tips are the following:

  • Hand placement for a reverse stick hit is like holding a frying pan, with the “V” of the stick along the back and both hands at the top.
  • Feet placement: right foot in line with the right side of the ball, stick slightly ahead and strong, lunging position but knee should not touch the ground.
  • Swing: around the body, keeping low, ripping through the ball and rotating hips.
  • Contact: made on the side of the ball, with the stick swinging around the edge for more power and pace.
  • Hip rotation is important, keep the body upright for better rotation and contact.
  • For game situations, practice rolling the ball and using left foot for better follow through.
  • When sprinting, use the left foot for better follow through and consistency.
  • As a defender, use the reverse stick hit for passing to forwards or midfielders, making sure it’s flat and consistent.
  • The reverse stick hit is becoming more apparent in gameplay for taking shots on goal or distributing from the back.
