Learn How to Defend 1v1’s with JoanGoalie

In this video uploaded to Joan Goalie Youtube Channel, he share his insights about defending 1v1 situations in hockey. He suggests holding the stick in a longer position to increase reach and ability to intercept passes.

During a match, players will often try to fake the defender and go around the goalkeeping, therefore staying close and reacting to their movements is key. Aggressively going for the ball before the attacker can fake is another effective strategy. Younger goalies tend to wait for the attacker to make a move, which can lead to easy goals; being active and trying to get the ball is encouraged.
