Tactical analysis: Penalty corner counterattack in 3 passes

This play is a perfect example of penalty corner counter attack that shows how well the space (width and depth) should be used in order to avoid giving any chances to the opponent’s defence.

movements

This picture shows different individual actions that have allowed the team in black to generate this goal situation:

Player 1: He attracts the attention of the first defender while having the intention of releasing the ball with a pass. When he sees player 2 running to the space, he makes a push pass off his right foot and onto an offensive space.

Player 2: Runs from behind in an offensive action to a space that is straight ahead. He probably sees that player 3 is dragging his mark away from the centre of the field so he runs towards that space.

Player 3: He moves to side of the circle towards the ball-side. By leaving the centre of the circle free, he creates the space for his teammate and generates a potential 1 vs goalkeeper situation.
