The South African powerhouse: Pietie Coetzee

Pietie Coetzee was born on September 2nd of 1978 in Bloemfontein, South Africa. She represented her country at the 2000, 2004 and 2012 Olympic Games scoring around 277 goals in 276 international games. She was once, and still is, the historical international top scorer.

She played as striker and she made her international senior debut in 1995 against Spain during the Atlanta Challenge Cup in Atlanta. She was the top goal scorer at the 2002 Women’s Hockey World Cup held in Perth, and in 2011, she became the all-time leading goal scorer in women’s international hockey. The previous record, was held by the Russian Natalya Krasnikova with 221 goals.
