The Hockey Princess: Kate Middleton

Britain's Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge plays hockey with the GB hockey teams at the Riverside Arena in the Olympic Park in London

Catherine Middleton is the Duchess of Cambridge and the wife of Prince William, Duke of Cambridge and second in line to succeed his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, as monarch of the United Kingdom. She has had a major impact upon British and American fashion, which has been termed the “Kate Middleton effect”, and in 2012 she was selected as one of the “Most Influential People in the World” by Time magazine.

In addition to her royal status, Kate is a huge hockey fan…

She played hockey during her high school years where she was defined as a fierce and very passionate competitor: “It was while I was here at school that I realised my love of sport. Sport has been a huge part of my life, and I feel incredibly grateful for the opportunities I had to get outside and play in such wonderful open spaces – though sadly there was nothing quite as glamorous as this in my time!”
