Ryde Hockey Club tactics: The “Fall Away” press

This video shows an overview of the “fall away” press by Ryde Hunter Hills 1st Grade Captain Alex Jones. The fall away press is an alternative defensive structure to the full press, where the defending team “falls away” to in front of the half way line before attempting to trap the attacking team into side line pockets. Its a useful defensive structure for teams trying to compress the middle of the pitch and avoid becoming stretched and also for teams less confident in their ability to execute the full press.
